Atari 800XE

A European XE model with 64 KB RAM, revision C BASIC and ECI, offered by Atari in 1987. It lacks the 130XE's extra memory banks.

A late model for Europe

The 800XE was offered in Europe in 1987. An Atari leaflet from July lists 64 KB RAM and 24 KB ROM containing the operating system and revision C Atari BASIC. It also appeared in German retail offers that autumn. Despite its similar name, it is not a variant of the 1979 Atari 800.

64 KB in an XE case

The 800XE has as much memory as the 800XL, but an XE case and connectors. Unlike the 130XE, it has no extra 64 KB of bank-switched RAM. It runs XL/XE software for 64 KB; titles requiring 128 KB need an upgrade.

Devices and expansions

SIO handles disk drives, cassette recorders and printers. ECI sits next to the cartridge slot for bus expansions such as the TURBO FREEZER with an XE adapter, which uses both connectors. Other features include two controller ports and video outputs.
